The world isn't bad. It just is.

Today, I reposted this on my fb wall and someone said "white people problems". Of course, I kindly reminded them that I am not, in fact, white (although, I admit, I sometimes forget. lol). But it brings up a subject that keeps coming up: We are over privileged, self indulgent and an entitled bunch of #$*#-ers. Well, okay, that's one take on it.

A good friend of mine told me that everyday their heart breaks a little bit because the world is a cruel and horrible place. That they look for the good and only see the ruthless disregard and disrespect for human life. A lot of times, they hold a simmering rage inside themselves at the injustices that are perpetrated against our fellow persons, and can't understand why people are the way they are.

Another person commented on a status that I had posted regarding the hopes and concerns I had for the upcoming year. They wrote that 9 out of the 10 things I was concerned about was nothing I could change, so why worry about it. Just do your own thing and it'll all take care of itself.

Perhaps it's naive to view the world the way I do, but I can't help it.  I do see what my friends see, but I don't believe that it can't be changed or that people are inhuman. I see acts of kindness everywhere I go. I am constantly inspired by those around me. I'm also a big believer in taking control of your destiny. If you are constantly wallowing about your plight in life, you probably don't have any energy left over to change it. I know it's cheesy to say so, but if you don't ask the question, the answer will always be no.  So ask! Change the status quo. No one else will do it for you! Only you can bring about change within yourself, and in doing so, maybe you'll inspire others to change too.

I made this one up myself: aspire to inspire. If you can do that, if you can do your very best in everything that you do, then maybe you can inspire others to do the same.
